A Life Lived

A Life Lived

“A Life Lived” is a quiet testament to time’s passing, captured in a rural clearing where an old homestead leans gently toward memory. The skeletal frame of a weathered log building, its roof partially collapsed and moss creeping along its timbers, sits among a stand of slender poplars and aspens. Their leaves are fading into the soft yellows and golds of late autumn, while some bare branches speak to the season’s turn. The grass around it is a mixture of muted browns and pale golds, suggesting a place long untended but not forgotten.

In the background, a forested ridge frames the horizon, deep green against the sky’s shifting clouds. The lake beyond catches a pale glimmer of light, reminding us that this quiet scene still holds vitality, even as the structures surrender to age. The air feels cool and still, almost reverent, and the photograph gives space to imagine the lives once lived here work, laughter, hardships, and quiet evenings under the same wide sky.

This image does not shout; it reflects. This classic image honours the inevitable journey from use to memory, showing that beauty exists even in things fading and that every ending holds a sense of story.

Break Through

Break Through

This image captures a moment where history, industry, and natural wonder converge in one breathtaking view. Taken in the Elk Valley of eastern British Columbia, this image is more than a landscape; it is a reflection on a region defined by its rugged beauty and industrious spirit. The Elk River winds its way through the frame, its cool blue tones carving a path through the dense forest and stony banks, while the snow-dusted peak stands like a silent guardian above. Low clouds drift and lift, revealing layers of green and gold as if the land itself is waking up.

The Elk Valley has a long and storied past home to settlers and coal mining, industries that shaped its communities and left lasting footprints on the land. Standing here with my camera, I couldn’t ignore the tension and harmony between what sustains us and what we must protect. Coal mining brought growth and livelihoods, but it also reminds us of the delicate balance we hold with nature.

This image is a pause to marvel a reminder that beauty often coexists with complexity. Break Through is both a celebration of wild places and a quiet call to stewardship, where progress and preservation meet.

Only Want Tomorrow

Only Want Tomorrow

Only Want Tomorrow is a study in quiet minimalism and the longing for what lies ahead. This photograph captures a cluster of weathered pilings rising gently from a glassy surface, their jagged tops softened by the calmness of the surrounding water. Suspended in a sea of white and pale tones, each remnant of wood becomes more than an object it is a marker of resilience, of what remains after time and tide have stripped away the rest.

The composition speaks of simplicity and focus, with three main elements balancing the frame like thoughts held in stillness. The muted palette enhances the sense of contemplation, leaving space for the viewer’s own reflections. It’s as if the world has been pared down to its essentials, and these timbers, aged and steadfast, point toward a future yet unwritten.

There is an unspoken narrative here of endurance and quiet hope something strong yet unhurried, asking nothing but time. This print resonates with collectors who appreciate art that feels meditative and timeless, a reminder that even the smallest fragments can hold meaning, and even the quietest moments can lead us forward.

Settled

Settled

Settled is a quiet nod to the enduring spirit of Canada’s early settlers, a moment suspended where history meets wilderness. This photograph captures a weathered log homestead, partially reclaimed by moss and time, standing amidst a grove of tall, pale aspens dressed in autumn hues. The skeletal frame of the roof reveals a structure built by hand logs stacked with precision, each one carrying the mark of labour, determination, and a need for shelter in an untamed land.

The scene is alive with stories. These cabins were once vibrant spaces: a warm fire crackling, the smell of pine and woodsmoke, voices sharing plans for crops and survival. Here, settlers carved a life out of rugged terrain, building not only homes but communities and hope for the future. The golden tones of the surrounding forest hint at changing seasons, a reminder of how the land shaped their resilience and adaptability.

This image invites reflection on heritage and sacrifice, honouring those who turned wilderness into homestead. It is both art and archive, capturing not just a building, but the echo of lives lived simply, courageously, and close to the land a tribute to those whose grit and vision became the foundation of rural Canada.
